CPAP mask and sinus problems - HELP!

Post CPAP mask and sinus problems - HELP!
I'm going in on Friday for my second CPAP titration study (I had a lot of trouble during my first one and only slept an hour).  Here's my question.  I have sinus problems and always have at least a slightly stuffed up nose.  Because the mask requires me to breath through my nose, what does one do?  If I only have one nostral open, I can breath for a while through my nose, but I have to switch to my mouth off and on PLUS I have to sniff or blow my nose periodically.  Is there something out there that effectively works for nose and mouth breathers?

Thanx for any help you can give me on this!

vivey have you tried doing the nasal sinus wash? I have found using Alkalol nasal wash has worked wonders for my blocked nasal passages and sinus, and I learned about it right here in this forum, from Vicki and Psuedonym the stuff is great it is a mucus solvent so it really helps clear nasal passages and it kills germs, I get it from my local compounding pharmacy. Anyway I use it half strength diluted with neilmed saline wash about 1/2 hour before going to bed. If you are having a constant problem with blocked nasal passages and sinus, then maybe an appointment with an ENT might be a good thing to do. Especially with being on CPAP. Good Luck to You.

I hadn't thought of that.  I do have a nasal rinse, but it came with only saline to mix with the water.  I use it when I get a sinus headache - it helps break up the pressure some.  I've had a CT on my sinuses, twice in fact.  The last one was only a month ago.  They found no blockaged or anything.  Just allergy problems, they believe.  I'll try it for the next few days before my test on Friday and see if it helps.

Thanx!

When you go in for your study, let them know you breath through your mouth, they should provide a full face mask for you.  They are a bit harder to get a seal, but they cover your mouth and your nose, so you can breath either way you want.  Good luck, Virginia
