Post software? should it be major factor in choice of machine?
My first appointment with DME is tomorrow and I am trying to get educated.

I like the idea of self-monitoring software. I *think* I want the REMstar Auto M with A-flex. I can't find much of a discussion of the software. Maybe I'm not looking in right place. Can it be used with an newer (Intel) Mac?  If not, is there a similar machine that is recommended?

Actually, ANY and ALL suggestions and cautions are welcome!

Thanks!

More important to me is easy access to the data via the LCD screen and the Resmeds are the leaders in amount of data and ease of access.

Neither Respironics' nor Resmed's software is Mac compatable unless your Mac can run Windows based software. While not as widely known DeVilViss and Fisher & Paykel have both come out w/fully data capable APAPs and Puritan Bennett (now Covidien) has had a good APAP w/some of the best software .... but that Mac of yours has to be compatable w/Windowns based software.

Yes, my Mac can do Windows -- but haven't wanted to try before this.

I'd want to both see the past night's events and to save data to compare --month by month, say-- and then print it out.
The software must allow something like that?

Thanks for mentioning some names, CrohnieToo. I will try to find out what is available.
From what others say, this first trip to the DME is critical, that it pays to be informed.....

You are sooo right! When dealing w/far too many local DME suppliers you NEED to be informed!! Yup, you can see the past nights' events w/the software AND compare data from month to month.

I can't speak for the DeVilBiss, Fisher & Paykel and Covidien (Puritan Bennett) from experience but can tell you that from the Resmeds especially and also the Respironics you can use the data from the LCD screen to enter into something like Excel to keep track of your data until you can get the software and necessary cable reader. (The Fisher & Paykel uses a SmartStick and Puritan Bennett (last I knew) used a cable direct to 'puter instead of a cable reader). Insurances do NOT pay for the software and cable/cable reader.
