Post Have a sleep study coming up this Thursday
Any tips? I was thinking about staying up all night Wednesday.

For accurate results, your sleep should be as near normal as possible.  You don't need to stay up all night on the night before. Just follow your regular routine, avoid caffeine that day, no daytime naps, eat a light supper, etc.  You can google "sleep study prep" for other ideas that I may have forgotten. I'm sure that others will chime in here shortly.

It will be weird to sleep with wires, camera, etc.  But just try to have a sense of humor and go with it.  It's not as bad as you might think - I slept like a baby all three times!

Good luck

Post Good Luck

Just wanted to wish you good luck tonight at your sleep study.  Don't be bashful about bringing up any questions or concerns you may have to the tech. It takes half an hour or so to get wired up, so you'll have plenty of time to chat.  The techs want you to have a good experience, and most are more than happy to explain and answer questions.  Sleep well.

The unthinkable happened!

Started having some troubles getting to sleep. All of a sudden, my mind went into all out race mode. I couldn't stop thinking about that stupid camera looking at me. Couldn't stop my heart from racing. Couldn't stop thinking about going to sleep, instead of just letting my mind wonder. The longer I stayed up, the more pressure I felt to get it done! It just wasn't happening. Then, I kept thinking about the tech watching me and waiting for me to fall asleep and the pressure was just building. It didn't help that this was one of the most important days of my life up until now! I ended up, maybe, napping for 30-60 minutes. Very choppy, dreamy sleep.

Very frustrating, disappointing and embarrassing in some way.  Sad  I feel like I've failed, although I couldn't have been the only one for this to happen too. Not really sure where it goes from here. I NEED this sleep study. There's no way around it. Hopefully I get another shot, but HOW DO I PREVENT THIS??

Sounds somewhat similar to my study. I am a light sleeper so being attached to all the wires and being required to sleep on my back were my biggest issues. It was also cold and the a/c was blowing directly on the bed so that didn't help. I finally fell asleep for a bit after about 90 minutes or maybe 2 hours. Long enough for the tech to determine I had apnea and connect me to the CPAP for the rest of the night. Took a long time to fall asleep again and then woke up after a couple of hours and laid there awake until the tech came in to unhook me. Went home and went straight to bed to sleep for a few hours.

The Lunestra seemed to have absolutely no effect on me. But you may want to ask you doctor for a sleeping pill.

But ultimately there was enough data there for them to give me a diagnosis and prescribe CPAP. I had no REM sleep at all and only a very short time in deep sleep (level 3 or whatever they call it). So they may have enough data on you.

Sorry things went a little haywire.  But all is probably not lost; you may have slept more than you think.  They'll let you know.

If you have to repeat the study, ask your doc for a sleeping aid. I took ambien cr, which works really well for me. I was worried that taking a pill would skew the results of the sleep study, but they told me that in order to study my sleeping habits, I had to sleep!  So I took the pills.

Actually, if you decide to go the sleeping pill route, you might want to ask for two or threer pills, so that you can "try them out", to see how you react to them. Sometimes they have the opposite effect, and will keep you awake. ( which you really don't want!).

Anyway, don't be too discouraged.  These things  happen, and you're certainly not the first patient that they've ever had who didn't sleep.  Better luck next time!

I think they must be used to it. They probably were able to get data.

It happened to me too just a little over a week ago. I didn't sleep much either, only a total of 87 minutes. They were able to get enough data, but there wasn't enough time to titrate the mask so I had to go back another night. I was worried that I would be awake all night again,  but they gave me Ambien and it worked for me. I was able to sleep most of the night. Now I'm waiting for my equipment to be delivered on Tues.

Don't feel bad happened to me last week, but I dozed off at some point for 20 min or so and according to the sleep tech I demonstrated apnea episodes enough she thinks I will be back for a titration night. Waiting now for the report on next step from the Pulmonologist. I never have trouble sleeping but that night was a nightnare to say the least!!!! GOOD LUCK

LOL... I had the flight flught for life helicopter come in while I was testing. All I could think was, shouldn't they put a sign on the roof that reads, "Quiet, Testing?" fI'm sure one of my events was just a chuckle.
