Post New To ASV
Hi Everybody,

I have been on BiPap for several years but with increased Central Apneas my doctor has moved me to a Resmed ASV machine.  While this has been slightly complicated by Opus Nasal Pillows (not supported), I am feeling slightly overwhelmed by all that seems to be involved with this machine.  Can anyone give me advice with regards to the resmed verses the resperionics?  have been reading and there seems to be differing reports about each.  still have the option to go with other machines.  Is there anyone out there who is using the Mirage Swift II with the Pressure port plug?  That is the mask that resmed is suggesting for me to replace Opus.  Any other ASV advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I have been using the ResMed VPAP Adapt SV machine since May of 2008 and it has been a real Godsend for me! I was started off on CPAP and then BiPAP and after 16 months of H*** and 6 (SIX) in lab sleep studies and getting a new sleep doctor I finally got but on the proper treatment and machine!  I personally think that this is the best machine on the market, but I have not used the Respironics ASV machine but I did use their BiPAP auto M machine with B flex for over a year! Anyway I used the machine with a modified Liberty mask up until just recently when I switched over to the Respironics FitLife full face mask which I think it the absolute best mask I have ever used! And I can tell you I have tried many many masks over the last few years, I the thought the Hybrid and the Liberty ( with my mod) was the ultimate in masks, untill I tried the Fit Life mask! Anyway PM if you want I will share with you what knowledge I can about the machine.  I have had no problems with using it and has been great, with in just a few weeks after starting treatment with this machine, my night sweats disappeared as well as waking up hourly to go to the bathroom (nocturia) it took around 3 months of use before I even began to notice a let up in the extreme fatigue and tiredness I was having and it took a few more months before it was gone! So you do need to give the machine some time! It does take a bitr of getting used to, but nothing that is overwhelming! I also purchased the ResLink and Data Card and a card reader and the software, and sice I have to be on Oxygen with my machine I purchased the the Nonin Pulse Ox that connects into the ResLink so I can also monitor my O2 Sats and Pulse rate along with the AI, AHI, Resp Rate, VT. MV and Leak Rate and all that data.  Anyway welcome to our little nitch of the sleep apnea world, with the ASV machines!.....White Beard

The ASV has been extremely effective in my case.  I work full time, most weeks 48 hours, and also go to college full-time.  I'm surprised at what a breeze it is.  I remember struggling very hard just to do 4 hours of work when I worked part time.  The quality of sleep I now get is simply amazing!  This is what life is supposed to be like.  I'm using a Resmed Activa LT.  I use bandages one can buy at a pharmacy as a chin strap.  My leak rate on average is 2 L/min. AHI is 0.3, usage is 6.0 hours daily.
