Im new but I am a reasearcher. IMHO APAP is way better than CPAP. Few reasons.

1) Your AHI index is probably worse on your back than side.
2) Straight CPAP has to be set for the worse senario (on yoru back)
3) Over treatment can cause to central apnea's
4) Your muscles dont work a all with the same pressure. Changing presure can cause them to work and tone them thus possibliby making things better.
5) You dont need the same pressure all through the night so why tolorate it if you dont.
6) Set a tight range and you wont have to worry about arousals. I heard people running fro 4 -20 thats no good. Find your upper limit and ask your doctor to set 4-5 CM below it.
7) My AHI index on auto is 0.6
8) My 90% pressure is 12, titration set me at 14.

Post truck driver or pilot?
By any chance are you a truck driver or pilot?

Then the APAP with full data capabilities is a must. There would be a goo reason for your doctor to switch you from CPAP to APAP.

The medical guidelines from FMCSA ans FAA on truck drivers ans pilots with OSA are being changed.

PM me if you have any truck driver questions.

RAM, just out of curiosity, not to be argumentative but what was the SOURCE you found saying "It was an insurance company refusing to pay for fully data capable machines"?? I ask because far too many local DME suppliers are less than truthful w/their patients. My first local DME supplier told me Medicare wouldn't pay for my doctor scripted nebulizer. That same local DME supplier told me that Medicare wouldn't pay for a damaged nasal cushion for my mask until I was due for a new mask (at 6 months). I really ENJOYED slapping the Medicare replacement schedule for mask cushions (my damaged one was almost 3 months old) and the proof Medicare WOULD pay for a nebulizer for me.

BeardedOne, I'm hearing LOTS of good things about the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust and IntelliPAP Info. They are by DeVilbiss, aren't they? I just haven't had any experience w/one so I hesitate to say what they do and don't provide. I"m also hearing good things about the new Coviden (Puritan Bennett) Sandman Auto and the new Fisher & Paykel HC 254 Auto - but again I have no experience w/them so .....

TruckerDad, am I understanding your correctly? Its not enough to have a fully data capapble CPAP for FMCSA, it MUST be a fully data capable APAP? That is great if I'm understanding you correctly!!!!!!
