Post New Respironics System One machines
I was delivered a PR System One Remstar Plus 250P.  Come to find out, it's compliance data capable only.  I have requested my DME to replace it with the 450, Pro model (there is also an auto in this series), it should be here early next week.  He told me that no one has ever asked them for full data before.  The receptionist who called me back was marveling at all the things you could have recorded about your night!  There is also an Auto in this series.

The pros:  This machine is virtually SILENT! There is a one-button control knob plus the ramp button.  All models feature Flex relief.  All have adjustable ramp, the Pro and Auto have automatic altitude adjustments.
The Pro and Auto machines record AHI, flow limitation, respiratory effort related arousal, snore, leak, clear airway apnea, obstructed airway apnea, hypopnea, and periodic breathing.  The heated humidifier has rainout reduction, compensating for room temperature and humidity.  The humidifier can be turned over without harming the machine.

The CON:  This series is the beginning of Respironics' end to patient-accessible information.  The software (either Encore Pro2 or Encore Anywhere) is available to doctors only. There were rumors that they would develop new software for patient use, but seems to be just a rumor.  I have read a couple of people have "hacked" into the system and gotten their information.  Until Respironics changes it's mind, I guess I will be doing the same.

I have a system one 550P. I got it after the M series kept me up nights with its wisteling  sound. The problem with it is that I wake up dry no matter what the humidity is set at. The machine also in my opinion is not quit, seems like still has the same noise level just at the mask. So, they sent me a resmed 8 series ii and last night was the first night, Woke up with face full of water after 2 hours. They say that the system one monitors room humidity so if its enough the humidifier does not come on. Probem is that the air pressure from the machine drys you out.

The system was does display the AHI and pressure and all that whereas the resmed S* seems to not display this. I was told that software would be out for the system one.

I was also told that the resmed treates hypopneas where as the resperonics waits for apnea's

I did get my 450 Pro one week ago.  I find it equally quiet; I wonder if the noise difference is due to the "auto" machine.

The DME delivered it with the clinician manual  Laughing  so I promptly set the machine to show me information on the LCD.  While it shows only 7/30 day averages, I can check it each day and see where I stand.    What I can see on my LCD: AHI, large leak, periodic breathing.I am a newbie, so it's enough information for me at this point.  I know others need more, and daily info.  However, I could see my AHI average go from 1.0, 1.6, 1.5, 1.4.  I could tell the nights I had problems with my mask, and the nights my humidifier did not come on!

I did have a little trouble with the humidifier this week, but turned it up to "3" and seems to be fine.  At "2", for 3 days I did not need to add water, I assume the humidifier never came on.

Again, my machine is not an auto, so I don't know the different features you may have.  I, too, have read the rumors of patient software (Spring 2012?)

In any case, I am happy to get on with therapy and looking forward to more and more days where I don't need a nap!!

If you had the Resmed S8 Compact or Escape the only data available was the compliance data. HOWEVER, if you had the S8 Elite or S8 AutoSet Vantage, both of which are fully data capable, you just didn't know how to turn the SmartData on and your local DME provider didn't turn SmartData on for you.

The Resmeds excel in ease of access to and the amount of data available via the LCD screen. Respironics doesn't even come close.

The unit I have is the resmed autoset II EPR, I know how to get into the clinical setup and there are no menus to turn nearly half the information on that I can see in teh resporonics. I cant see AHI, periodic breathing, 90% pressure, and a few other things. Does yours show the AHI's ? Maybe it needs a few days befoire it appears but I turned it off after night one as the mask raide out real bad.

These xPAPs have an internal, 24 hour, noon-to-noon clock. You have to check the Efficacy data before noon. And SmartData has to be turned on in the Clinical Menu. You can check not only the previous night's data but also the previous week's total averages, the previous month's total averages, the previous six months' total averages and the previous year's total averages once you have used the device that long. If you check your Users Manual you will see mention of the advanced/detailed patient menu. That is the Efficacy Data menu that allows you to check your data w/o the risk of accidentally - or intentionally - changing your therapy settings.
