Post Crushed ice has been a god send.
They were giving me crushed ice before my eyes were open in the reovery room and loaded with it the whole time at the hospital.I use it at home and stll do, Have never heard not to? But look at me I had bleeding problems also, but do not think the ice had any thing to do with it.LOL

My post op instructions say NO crushed ice.  I was thinking of blowing those instructions off but since everyone is bleeding out around here I guess I won't. ;)

Actually, I take in the crushed ice (blended to shave ice form), and by the time it's swallowed, it has already become ice water.  I haven't had any problems with crushed ice, and it seems to be the remedy when I do bleed, so I'm gonna stick to it.  Jamba Juice is also another great idea.  I always get the macha green tea, and that works pretty well!!

Post Crushed ice...
I have to agree with Tug crushed ice was the first thing they game me in the hospital... Also the frozen pops that are normally for the kids were probably my biggest ally. On my most painful days that was the only thing I could swallow and  after a few it also would kind of numb it not to mention it would keep it moist back there... Art Laughing

Post Ugh!
It's been 2 weeks and 2 days, I am still sore, tired, and grumpy. Having an issue when sleeping I thought I was sleeping better at first and would wake up as meds wore off, have not been taking them last few days still waking up during night only now I am gasping and jump like I've just been statled like leave the bed in fight or flight mode startled the last few nights. Last week I think this was happening and I thought I was breathing mucus or waking when swallowing or something not sure but seems to be getting worse what ever it is. Not like the apnea before surgery what I remember of that is nothing like now.  not sure at this piont what is waking me or why. Pain level alot less now but ache and tied now. thought I slept great a couple days, Now I just think I am lossing my mind and don't know why.

Post Awesome Day 17
Day 17 for me, and boy am I happy.  The pain has gone down to just over a 1 (simple sore throat), and I am feeling GREAT!!  According to my wife, I no longer snore, nor do I stop breathing in my sleep, and I wake up feeling like a champ!!!!

I have been off the pain medication for two days now (from day 15), and I feel as if my body has almost completely recovered.  I stayed on the antibiotics for 14 days straight and never skipped a beat on it, and I think that really helped with the recovery.  I've looked down my throat and I gotta say, it looks almost back to normal (no white or red stuff).  I can still see some of the stitching, but that's alright.  I am gargling slightly now.  I actually ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich last night and that went down well (still used some milk to ease it down though).  I go back to the doctor tomorrow, so I'm hoping for good news from him when he checks out my healing progress.

Although some may no longer intake crushed ice and kids frozen pops at this point anymore, I still do, and I think it's become a little habitual for me.  Still good for the throat though.

I'll update with doctor's remarks tomorrow.

Post Overtaken the truck!!
Doctor said that I'm 89% healed.  Recommended that I stay off the heavy foods a few more days, then ease into it.  Pain is no longer there, even when I swallow.  I'm liking the weight loss comments, so I'm planning on staying on a diet to try and keep the weight off.  I have lost approximately 18 lbs so far.  I am so stoked to be at this point.  I am definitely 100% happy that I made the decision to have the UPPP and Tonsilectomy done.  Doc says I have to return 3 months from now to conduct another sleep study to see my progress with sleep, but other than that, he says I don't have to return to see him until then.  Snoring is subtle to none, and definitely no choking.  Meds have been tossed and no longer needed.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and now I can say that I'm there!!  If I had to do this all over again with the same result, I'd do it!!  I know there have been testimonies about sleep apnea coming back, but I'm not going to dwell on that possibility, but simply enjoy this moment and this outcome.  I will continue to check on here how everybody else is doing, and most definitely provide helpful inputs.  Thank you all again for your posts and comments, because they REALLY helped!!

Congratulations Sapo!

I've found it very interesting and informative reading about your recovery process, encouraging too.

My pre-op appointment is this afternoon.  I've got 2 pages of questions for the Dr., lol, hope he doesn't throw me out before he answers them......

Question #7-why no ice chips?!

No problem Pstar,
I'll keep checking and updating if need be.  I'll also be checking to give my personal experiences based on what you and/or anyone else goes through if need be.  Good Luck!!

Yeah, make sure you question your doctor, because I sure as heck did, and not only did he mind, but he provided all the answers and remedies I needed!!

Post Pre-op appointment---Doc Martin shows up
Hey Sapo,  I wrote a post on this another a forum, guess I forgot to post it here too.  My Dr's skills and experience are top notch but he skipped the class on bedside manner in med school ;)  D-day tomorrow.........Hope you and everybody continues to do well.

" Had the pre-op yesterday and the bad Dr. showed up again. Maybe some of you Brits may know what I’m referring to when I now call him Doc Martin. I watch that show on PBS here in the states. This guy seems to have a contest with himself to see how fast he can close the appointment down. He makes me feel like he is always “squeezing me in” and needs to rush off some place, probably the golf course. As he was trying to exit stage left after 5 minutes I told him I have a list of questions for him. He looked at me like I had just bounced him from the last stand by flight out of Iraq before the war. He also likes to go into these looong stories about patients that didn’t follow his instructions and then stops mid sentence and stares at me waiting for me to finish it. Like I’m back in economics 101. I usually can’t answer correctly and I have no doubt that if I wasn’t 6′ 5″ 225 lbs he’d probably rip out his knee jerk hammer and hit me over the head."

I'm sorry to hear about your Dr. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel with someone who doesn't have time to answer my questions or thinks he's the only person who knows anything about whats going on... I hope everything goes well for you today and that you have better sleep in your future. On Mon. 11/16 I go in for my second round of somnoplasty of the base of my tongue. Not really looking forward to the pain but, my Dr. says this is more like a regular soar throat. I hope everyone who has had the surgery is experiencing as good a nights sleep as I am, its truly amazing how much better I feel. I too am very happy that I had the surgery.  Applause
