 Mystery Diagnosis
The Discovery Health Channel "Mystery Diagnosis" show had this segment on:
A preacher started having terrible nightmares. His wife would hear him snore and stop breathing, but thought nothing of it (red flag, red flag, big hint). He developed severe headaches that lasted all day and could almost not be helped with medicine. Soon he started waking up with his heart beating extremely fast. His heart would not slow down and multiple trips to the ER began (this was not a panic attack that some posters have). All of the tests for heart abnormalities were normal but his EKG upon ER admittance would show tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate, around 150).
One trip to the ER found his heart in an arrhythmia and a shock was necessary to bring it back to a normal rhythm. He began to get his life in order and plan for his death. After years of futile testing to identify a cause (sound familiar?) one of his parishioners, who worked in a sleep lab suggested a sleep study. The preacher and his wife thought the idea was crazy, but he humored his parishioner. As the preacher fell asleep and went through the sleep stages, nothing happened and the tech began to doubt his suspicions. But when the preacher hit REM sleep, bam, it happened!! It happened for a long period of time and it happened over and over. What was this man's diagnosis? If y’all don’t know, then your apnea has definitely affected your cognitive functions.
When they gave him his new special friend during his sleep study, he woke up feeling better than he had felt in years. He told his parishioner/tech to let him take it home with him. After treatment, his heart problems completely went away, his headaches went away, his health returned and he reclaimed his life. This was a great little 12 minute segment describing the seriousness of sleep apnea and its symptoms, effects, diagnosis and treatment. Catch it if you can.

 Mystery Diagnosis - Harley Howard
Hello Vicki,
My name is Harley and I am the subject of that edition of Mystery Diagnosis on OSA. There was a LOT more film that was shot and I was hoping that they would have made the episode a bit longer; BUT, I am thankful for what they did show and if there is anything that I can do to encourage ANY and EVERYONE who may have SA to get TESTED, please do not hesitate to give them my e-mail address. I hope that they will rebroadcast that episode soon. A UPS driver came over to our home after seeing the program and enquired about OSA! How wonderful is that!

I have amish TV at the moment, but would really like to see this. Did anybody here record it? I'd like to get a copy. If you did, PM me and I'll give you my address.
Thanks,

Amish TV? LOL! I think you mean you live in a place like I do! No regular TV reception without a BIIIG antenna or satellite or what can trickle thru the really poor cable system.
Never heard it termed that way tho... Being that the Amish shun technology I don't think we are gonna offend em, but...

Harley,
I saw your episode on Mystery Diagnosis. I want to thank you for being so very brave. It takes a lot of courage to be that open with your illness. You have inspired me to find the answers that I need. I have been suffering from an illness for over three years and it is worsening. I think that if I hadn't seen your episode then my life would be completely different.
Once I find the answers that I desperately need, I plan on coming on the show Mystery Diagnosis. I want to inspire other people like how you have inspired me. Thank you so so much. You have no idea.

Unfortunately, I think you have to be invited to be on that show. I don't think they use the same topics over again, either. However, you should continue to post on this forum; you never know whom you might inspire here...

Oh, I didn't know that. I was searching Google for more information for the show and it had a phone number for a person to call if you think that you'd be a good candidate for the show.
Yeah, I don't think they do that. Oh, I don't have Sleep Apnea. It's something else.
