Post My results from my sleep test!
here are my results from my sleep test:
Sleep study showed marked reduction in sleep efficiency at 63%. Cortical arousal's were increased to 30 events per hour in addition to stage shift increase of 102 reflects sleep fragmentation. Prolonged sleep latency to 42 min. is considered unusual for patient.
Rem latency was increased to 250 min. rem sleep was down to 12%. No recorded slow wave sleep during the study. total sleep time 4 hrs. No recorded plm events. Respiratory index was up to 50 events per hour with predominant hypopneas, apnea events strictly of obstructive nature. oxygen saturation curve was partially compromised with occasional desaturation below 95%.
Severe sleep apnea!

anyone who can explain more clearly what this all means in laymens terms please help!!!
thanx,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I'm sure others can explain these things better, much of it I don't understand either.
But an index of 50 events per hour is high, I believe, and likely one reason for classifying you with severe sleep apnea.  Again, I'm never sure about these things.  But that they are described as strictly obstructive apneas, that's good, for that means cpap treatment should work well, I believe.  Sounds like your oxygen levels dipped occasionally below 95% which tells me it probably wasn't much of a decrease, which is also good.  My oxygen level consistently dipped to much lower levels.  And those oxygen levels are important.  I have a hunch sleepydave will have better or more interpretations.

Post Study Results
Hello Debbie:
Was this done in a sleep lab?  The line about, "the oxygen saturation curve was partially compromised" means the sensor fell off.  It should have been replaced promptly and not "compromised" anything.  I'm picky.  Knowing the lowest your oxygen level dropped is important, though, try to get that.
This is one bad night of sleep.  Long time to fall asleep, then a large wake period(s) during the night?  Are both of these things usual for you?  REM should occur at about 90 minutes, yours takes over 4 hours.  Medications?
The report for respiratory events says "up to 50 events per hour".  Find out what that means, if it was when you were supine, or in REM, cause it doesn't sound like it's the index for the whole night, which I think will also be important to know here.  Each hypopnea needs an arousal and/or a desaturation, it sounds like you didn't have many desaturations, so you're short about 20 arousals per hour if it were the night's average.  Write back.

Yeah the test was done in a sleep lab! It was a very normal night for me. I always take for ever to fall asleep and wake up so many times during the night.
I just went and saw the ent today and it looks like I am getting my tonsils out and having rhinoplasty surgery done in january! I guess my nose is crooked, didn't know Smile
I don't here back about my cpap till sept. 12th! then I will have hopefully more info for you guys!
