I'm only going by what my 82 year old grandmother told me but she said she saw a program on local tv that had a new surgery for OSA. She told me it involved a simple surgery where strips of plastic were inserted across the soft palat to prevent it from relaxing during sleep. I've been searching the internet for a while tonight and haven't found anything about what she told me, has anyone heard anything about this ???

Have you been recently diagnosed with SA?  Surgery is only successful in some folks and is extremely painful, I would suggest getting some assurance from a couple of doc's before progressing down that road...

I've read articles and seen TV shows about this new surgical technique, too, but am not racing to a surgeon.  I want to understand the long term effects very well before submitting myself to surgery.  

The technique seems to work by encouraging the soft palate to stiffen via scar tissue growth.  It sounds promising, but it's a form of mutilation (albeit a milder form than the more traditional surgery) that doesn't sound reversible to me.  I haven't heard whether people who form greater than average scar tissue should avoid this surgery; I don't want to undergo surgery and discover excessive scar tissue made the problem worse!  I'd much rather submit to a rCPAP egimen that takes a few minutes of effort each day, and I know works well.
