I've only been on it for a week, and I thought that my feet and hands have been a little swollen in the morning.  Not really bad, but enough that I have noticed it.

I've been on CPAP for two weeks and have not noticed any swelling anywhere.

After much research on this problem (swelling feet and ankles), I found it is a rare side effect of CPAP.  I have it, but it is getting a little better  Smile .  I have used CPAP for a couple months.  Initially, I went off CPAP to see if it was the machine, and after a week the swelling went away.  It came back when I resumed CPAP.  My doctor insisted that water retention was not a side effect of CPAP, but in researching the message boards, I found that some people do, in deed, have this problem.  Hopefully, yours will get better after awhile.  Good luck!

I believe this is known as edema.  There are endless sources of edema.   Does this look like what happens to you?

Many COPD patients (as am I) may recognize this condition.  In COPD patients it is not always water retention.  One of the complications of COPD can be edema by right heart failure.  A common symptom of COPD and of OSR is a reduction in the ratio of oxygen saturation in the cells.  A phone call if the edema condition persists more than two days won’t hurt or cost much. If it were me, I would call just for the assurance.

Someone inform me if I am wrong, but in an otherwise healthy individual, I cannot imagine any physical reason a CPAP would cause edema.  To the contrary, I would expect CPAP to improve blood pressure, blood flow, peripheral circulation, etc.  I would definitely notify your doctor and identify the cause of your edema.

Post Freckling...
I did not have any edema prior to, or after CPAP treatment.  But I DID have skin discoloration and severe freckling around my ankles and calves (of a brownish color).  It also went down the top of my feet to a lesser extent.  To this day, I do not know what caused it, but it has gotten much better since I went on CPAP.  Has anyone heard of OSA causing this prior to treatment?
