Post new cpap user seeks advice
Hi, I'm a new cpap user (3 wks) and am having some problems with mask!! don't find a problem falling asleep but tend to wake up a few times and often wake up in the morning without the mask. Is this normal? and will it get better? Still tired! I am from Scotland and there are no sites like this here. You all seem to be very informed about your machines and masks - I know nothing !! hope someone can ease my mind - feel like i'm going slowly mad!!!!

Hi fiona
it took me a full 3 ,months to get used to my CPAP and mask, Ive now been using it for 10 years and have much more energy
yes we all take the mask off in our sleep at first, some sticking plaster to hold the mask on may help if it becomes a habit
if its a nose mask, your muouth must be closed for the CPAP to be able to work

Hi Fiona,

A common problem with new users. If it continues you should contact your clinic (if the Royal in Edinburgh, they are very knowledgable in this area). It will probably sort itself out.

You should log onto www.sleep-apnoea-trust.org (Sleep Apnoea Trust), a voluntary support group based in Oxford, http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/26739336/ gives a link to The Scottish Association for Sleep Apnoea, a voluntary group based in Gala Shiels or www.isat.ie, a voluntary group in Ireland.

Kind regards, from you Gaelic cousin,

Daniel
