I decided to try to get ahead of the game and contacted my pulonary doc and find out which DME they used. My sleep study is scheduled for Wednesday and my followup with the doc is one week later. Then the DME for fitting. Anyway the DME person my doc uses said that "they" decide if I need a CPAP based on my sleep study. I thought it was my doc who decided. :( They also informed me that it may take as long as 2 weeks to get my machine. Needless to say I was discouraged. I was told later by Humana that I could chose which DME I used and that Humana had several to chose from. My doc sends people to Florida Medical Equipment. These are the people I was so disappointed in. I am a natural skeptic and wondered if there were some kind of kickback plan that encouraged them to referr people to them??Gentiva is also on my plan. Has anyone had any experience with them?
Is it true that the DME decides if I qualify for a CPAP?
Should I have to wait for 2 weeks before I begin treatment after the doc writes a RX for CPAP?
Thank you all in advance for you help. My daytime sleepiness symptoms have gotten acutely worse in the last few weeks as I await my sleep study and I feel miserable.
