Post Any folks in the DC/Northern VA area?
Performing at the Barnes at Wolf Trap on January 24th at 8PM

John McEuen (of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fame) and his two sons.

An apnea patient in treatment for 15 years... John credits getting treated as the reason he still around and why he has accomplished as much as he has since 1990.

John has agreed to an interview to tell the story of his life with OSA.  It will be available here at sometime in Feburary.

Here are some notes on the show.

E =Mc3
It's all relative

As 'String Wizard' John McEuen joins his two sons, Jonathan and Nathan, we go on a journey through their father's 40 year career in music with stories, songs, and a slice of American music history througth that journey. It rapidly becomes evident, through some of the favorite Nitty Gritty Dirt Band songs covered in a fresh way, that their father's legacy is being ably handled, and then they take off from there. Hot Bluegrass, blues, the sons' new music (both receive national airplay), as well as some 'tear-jerking' favorites - when the boys dedicate Leader of the Band to their dad there isn't a dry eye in the house (their recent performance of it on The Grand Ole Opry was received with a standing ovation). And their bluegrass lightning version of Prince's Kiss rocks the house.

E=Mc3 makes it evident that the circle of music remains unbroken, and with a special section of their show dedicated to what is called “the most important album to come out of Nashville” (Rolling Stone), referring to the Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, the tradition continues. Recently honored in 2006 on the list of CMT's top 40 most important country albums of all times, this seminal recording changed the lives of many. Often called 'the father of Oh, Brother', the experience of making this platinum trend setting album is relived for the audience by its instigator (it was John who first invited Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson to record with the band), and stories and songs take us all back to that magic time.

With over 1,000 shows together, John and his sons have a love of performing together that is evident every performance. They have appeared together on many television shows, radio specials, and with major music acts around the country. Both sons' independent solo recordings are regularly featured on XM Radio's Acoustic Traveller show on channel 15 (John's show) and they each keep up an extremely active individual performance schedule with their own careers.

As for 'the boys', Nathan (25) has just released his first CD and is receiving great reaction both here and in the U.K.  Jonathan's (29) Brand New Opry, in their hometown of Ventura, California, is now in its 2nd year as a weekly event, drawing full houses every show. He also recently finished playing all the lead guitar and singing harmony on the next album of one of his mentors - Dave Mason - (who calls himself “Jonathan's other dad”). Jonathan has recorded over 7 cds with various projects (not including appearing throughout dad's most recent release - Round Trip), and spent last year touring behind chart and video success with his cousin Jaime and their music - Hanna/McEuen - (on MCA Records) that included a recent appearance, with brother Nathan, on The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno.

It all comes together the night of the show: the broad music influences to and from the sons (from Phish to Prince, Bill Monroe to the Dirt Band), the stories of growing up in a musical family, the new songs and old favorites of NGDB. A family show by a family of people dedicated to music and live performing, when the standing ovation crowd is asked 'is everybody happy?' they only respond with “….more!!...”
