Post Dreaming and Sleep apnea
My question,

Would sleep apnea cause me to wake up randomly during the night and recite dreams to my partner...without really waking up ??  Does anyone else have this problem ??

Hi,

Never heard of that one.

The Sleep Cycle comprises Non REM sleep and REM Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. Non REM sleep comprises stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. Stages 1 & 2 are light sleep. 3 & 4 are where you get your rest (deep sleep). After this you move to REM sleep where you dream, muscles are paralysed (for want of a better word) and the brain sorts out information etc.

Your sleep cycle repeats every 90/110 minutes. Anything from 4 to 6 cycles a night.

Hope this might help. I don't think sleep apnoea would have anything to do with this.

Daniel

sounds more likely to be anxiety related, maybe get partner to taperecord you so you can play beck to doc, sleepwalking is sometimes associated with this problem

Post Dreams and Sleep Apnea
Hey Daniel

I have been told that the like vivid dreams I have been  having are related to apnea.
I was dreaming in such detail it was very unusual.

Along with the dreams were night sweats,  where some nights I'd drench the sheets - NO  NOT that way  - with sweat.  My wife would get upset with me because just my side of the bed was wet but she'd have to change the sheets for sure.

My Dr. led me to understand that this was due to the endorfins released due to stopping breathing  ( 32 times per hour ut to 90 seconds some times during my sleept assessment)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it   Very Happy  Very Happy

HI TOF,

Most people with apnoea complain that they don't dream, as they seldom get REM sleep (or only a small amount if it).

On using cpap on a regular basis they often mention that they are dreaming again and can remember some of the dreams. A sleep doctor told me (many years ago) that we only remember dreams because we wake during the dream. If we don't wake we don't have a 'vivid' recall of the dream.

There are quite a number of different 'substances' released due to untreated apnoea, one of which causes nocturia (regular awakening for attendance in the bathroom).

Sleep is a wierd and wonderful thing.

Daniel

If you want to call them vivid dreams, Apnea will definatly cause them. Before my throat surgery I would have "vivid dreams" that included "kick starting my motocross bike", except I was kicking my wife instead. One nite I jumped out of my bed because the bridge was going to blow up, another nite I got up and ran into the wall (maybe too much TV) and those were just the highlights. After the surgery, they never came back.

Most of the time I don't remember dreaming, but I've always heard that everyone dreams every night but we don't always remember them. The morning after my last sleep study, the nurse asked me if I remembered any dreams. I said that I didn't recall any and wondered if I'd been saying or doing something weird in my sleep. But she said she was asking because they hadn't recorded any dream activity all night.

Has anyone else been told this on a sleep study? I was too sleepy at the time to ask questions but I'm assuming she meant I had no rem sleep patterns, but is that possible?

I am so tired of feeling sleepy, tired, and disoriented all the time.
