Post Bathroom Trips
Hi,

This maybe a stupid question  Embarassed  but what do you do if you need the bathroom?  I have been on the machine just over a week and I am tired of taking the mask off.  Last night I unhooked the hose and it was obviously too noisy with the force of air coming out.  I shouldn't turn the machine off should I?  I am using the auto machine.  If I keep turning the machine on and off will it screw up the data and "nights sleep" when it's printed out?

Thanks for any help.

Wendy

Do whatever is easier for you, and yes, it is OK to turn the machine off, that may be prefereable to leaving it running showing a major leak while you are "away".

Also, if it is possible to disengage the tubing from the mask instead of taking the mask off completely, that might be easier for you -- that's what I do when I have to get up in the middle of the night.  I find that it's a lot easier to disconnect and reconnect the tubing than to fiddle with taking off the mask and putting it back on to the same fit.

Keep us posted! :)

Ok, I can answer my own question because I asked my DME.  She said that with regard to the readings on the APAP when they print it out they will know that I had taken a bathroom break no matter what I do.  She said I can take the mask off if I want or I am take the hose apart or turn the machine off.  I have been turning it off because that is easier for me.  Aparently the "leak" when you undo the hose with the machine on isn't a problem when they print it out because they realize what is going on.

Thanks everyone!

Wendy

I've been on CPAP for 9 nights and my nightly bathroom trips have gone from 1 or 2 per night to ZERO.  I made one trip the first night because I was already awake trying to get my mask adjusted.  I use an Activa and it easily seperates from the hose, but I haven't had to get up yet.

Although I've only been on cpap for less than a week, I've starting shutting off the cpap when I take my bathroom breaks.  Otherwise, my wife complains about the noise.

You know, now that I think about it, my nightly bathroom trips have dwindled, too!  I used to get up once or twice, and now . . . well, I can't remember the last time I had to get up to pee!  Wow . . . you'd think I would have noticed this difference.
