Post Are Awakenings Recorded?
Hello,

I was diagnosed with mild/moderate sleep apnea about one month ago. I’m located in Canada and the provider of CPAP machines that I’m using allows trials of machines and equipment prior to purchase. I’ve been using a Respironics M Series with humidifier and Swift FX nasal pillow mask for the past month.  According to the data card that the provider has downloaded, my RDI has gone from 20 to 5.5 which is great. However, I’m wondering if the machine (or other makes/models) also record awakenings that aren’t related to respiratory events. The reason I’m asking is because I’m waking several times during the night because of condensation in my mask. It’s great that my RDI is back to normal but it doesn’t help if I’m waking for different reasons. Anyway, as I’ve asked, are non-RDI events recorded?

Thanks.

You are in Canada.  I am assuming your bedroom my be fairly chilly.  You could have your humidifier set to high.   You normally want it set as low as you can and still not wake up in the morning with a stuffed up nose.  Also you do not want to have a dry throat.  If you turn down the humidifier and  you still get water in the mask.  Write back and we will share more with you.

Also visit the web site awake.truckersforacause.com.  On the meeting archive page you will find a recording of a meeting about humidification that could be very helpful.

No, your machine only can detect breathing events. (Apneas & Hypopneas)

Gary is right, you should be able to get rid of your rainout.

Thanks for the help.

I turned down the humidifier to 2, which helped quite a bit. I'm now demoing a System One machine and this has helped with rainout even more. I've had a few good nights of sleep so hopefully things keep improving.

Thanks again.
