My better half has recently been advising me (complaining is not a good word) that the DeVilbiss is quite loud and disturbs her sleep........so I started looking around for a really quiet machine. The IntelliPAP seems to be quite popular and quiet, but I only want straight CPAP.........nothing fancy and I don't use humidification. I am also 'old school' regarding compliance data (sorry Chronie) and didn't look for it.
My DME supplier (not tied to DeVilbiss) suggested the 'Cube'. The 'Cube' is exactly that.......quite small (at least half the size of the 9001), bult like a cube.............but it is sooooo quiet. I have kept my ResMed UM Micro mask. Two nights of use and my better half is amazed at just how quiet it is.......she has slept soundly on both nights and is delighted with my choice. Needless to say I forgot the manual, but I notice that it is 'rigged' for direct current from a battery (happy days).
In looking at different machines, I came accross the 'Vector et' (from a German company called Hoffrichter). They are CE Approved, but I'm not sure of FDA Approval. They have basic CPAP, APAP, BiLevel and what appears to be a type of SV machine......with or without humidification.....and they have an exhalation relief system similar to cflex or EPR. Possibly not available in the US yet, but a neat looking machine. The big winner in their range is a machine specifically built for travelling/camping etc. It works off 2 lithium ion batteries, has a neat foot print, is fairly robust and is reputed to run for 8/9 hours on a single charge. It is good to see that the manufacturers are starting to cater for those who wish to continue out door activities. I believe that ResMed and Respironics have 'battery' type devices in the pipeline............bring them on
Daniel.
