Dreaming?

Post Dreaming?
Once I found a mask that worked, and I started sleeping (bipap), I started dreaming.  Previous to tx, I probably remembered one or two dreams a year.  Now, it's like being at a 20 screen cineplex with dreams running on all screens at the same time.  Some in color, some in black and white (I don't understand that).  Am I just catching up on dreams (like sleep debt)?  Do they slow down over time?

Thanks!  -Philomath, a small town in western Oregon

I have just gone through exactly the same thing that you are talking about, and from reading a lot of the posts here it seems to be a fairly common thing once you get hooked to the hose. My understanding is that it does calm down.

Post dreaming
Before I had a cpap I dreamed every night in color.  All kinds of dreams.  Since I have worn the cpap (12-06) I have only had two dreams that I recall.  Infact I have told my husband several times I dont dream anymore.  I also had nightmares where I would think I was awake and see things or people in my room.  Once I came out of the bed so fast screaming that both of my elbows and knees had dry burn on them.  All that has stopped.

I have mega severe sleep apnea , and I have always dreamed. Some are pretty vivid, involving all senses, I dream symphonies, I have dreamed of food and remember the smells,  even a few X-rated dreams.  Cpap has calmed them down a bit, but they can still be quite odd at times. Medications I take have a lot to do with them, provigil makes them more intense, so I had to cut my dose in half.  I am bi-polar, most people who are have pretty intense dreaming.  More studies need to be done,  I wouldn't be surprised if it is determined that sleep disorders are responsible for many phychiatric disorders. virginia

I had vivid dreams before and since CPAP. The difference is the dreams before were almost nightmares and tied to stress and anxiety. Fortunately I powered through that and got better. Now with CPAP and less stress I'm dreaming, but nice dreams!

I can recall prior to Cpap only having dreams that involved falling, drowning, or being chased.  They were horrible and resulted in me waking up bathed in sweat.  Now I have dreams that are varied.  I won't say I NEVER have a bad dream but it is pretty infrequent now.  Before I could have so many nightmares, in one night, I could not even count them. Sleeping was REAL HARD WORK!!!!!! I woke up more exhausted then when I went to bed.

Glad those days are over.  My cpap is my BEST FRIEND!
