Post Husband doesn't use CPAP all the time/help
Hi, my husband has sleep apnea with restless leg syndrome, my problem with him is he doesn't use his machine faithfully, some nights he uses it all the time,
then there are nights he doesn't he'll fall asleep without it on and then I'll wake up 2 hours later and having to wake him up and telling him to put his mask
on, so that is two hours without him wearing it.
My other issue with him is, he travels alot on business, and sometimes he will travel without it cause he feels it's a pain to take the whole thing with him in
his travels, he was just away on business overnight for two nights and did not use it.
I have tried and tried in telling him on how serious this apnea is, he even had a cardiologist tell him, but it still doesn't sink into his brain.

When he had his sleep study done he was told he has a very serious case of apnea, the reason for the caridologist is because of high blood pressure, he went
through testing and his heart is fine, thank goodness.
I love him dearly but I just cannot get him to understand and to listen on the importance of this issue.  I feel like he is slowly killing himself and that he just
doesn't care.
How can I get him to listen to me that he really needs to wear his cpap every night all night long, please help.

Karencia,

I'm sorry no one posted a response sooner.

I'd write a PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL letter to the cardiologist before his next appointment.  Explain everything you said in your letter here but ask the cardiologist to keep your letter CONFIDENTIAL.  Indicate that your husband is not compliant with his cpap at home or when traveling.  Hopefully, the cardiologist will enforce compliance.

Edited to add:  Every time he sleeps without his cpap he is suffocating in his sleep.

It's a poor excuse to travel and NOT take the cpap.  My husband traveled for business and took his cpap along for almost 20 years.

Good luck.
